A photo-illustrative project creating responses to Haruki Murakami's dystopian novel 1Q84. These images were then adapted into a book cover concept and promotional material.

This project began with image generation for a re-imagined book cover of the dystopian novel 1Q84 by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. Translating the uncertain nature of the text, unsure when something might be broken, torn away or just disappear. Each image shows the volatile nature of both worlds the protagonists live in. These images articulate three distinct phases in the book; situation, contemplation and confrontation.

Accompanying the created imagery is the extended brand identity, applied to the primary image to create the final book cover. Set in a transparent, glowing red, the identity works as the antagonist of the story.
